buying 3G or keeping 2G and more...

Hi,
I own 2G iphone, i bought it when it was launched and i jail break and unlock it usging the methods i found in this forum, and now it runs 1.1.2 anyway i've never use the iphone for quite sometimes cause i'm very busy with my work and i had to use my trusty Nokia E90 for that, (i use iphone mainly for leisure phone) :P
anyway last week i went to hong kong and one of my colleague ask me to buy an iphone 3G for him, so i bought one , whte colour , factory unlocked, the moment i tried the phone, i starting to fell in love again, but i remember that i still have my 2G 8GB at home, and being busy with my wirk, i haven't check this forum or any other iphone forum for the past several months, so i don't know any thing that;s has been going on in this iphone world.

when i bought the 3G for my friends, they ask me wheter i wanted the normal iphone (locked using a kind of turbo SIM) or factory unlock, (full unlock, no need turbo SIM) and i bought thet factory unlock for my friend, so i guess the 3G is still not unlockables, is this true ?

and apart from having 3G and GPS, is there anymore diference between them ?

i've heard several people says the 3G reception is worse and battery life also very bad.

and most important;y i want to know wheter my 2G iphone can runs the same firmware as the 3G phone ?

if possible can somebody be kind enough to guide me to it ?

if the 2G can't runs the same firmware then maybe i'll buy the 3G,

thank you so much and i really miss modding my iphone :P

anyone

Keep the 2g, sell the 3g - as many as you can get your hands on. They are identical to USDM phones, but have a hardware unlock that nobody else on the planet has so they are worth major bucks. All the "fun" stuff that you have your 2g for is still restricted to 2g since the 3g won't run the 1X firmware.

The 3G and 2G both run 2X firmware. but the packages are different so they do not swap to each phone.

The 2g iPhone can run the new 2.1 firm just like the 3g one can.

The main differences are GPS and 3G internet speeds. If you're in an area that does have 3G coverage, it's probably worth the upgrade.

If you're in an Edge only area, then unless you really need the GPS in the phone, you'd probably do fine to upgrade your 2g iPhone to the newest firm, and then use the unlock/jailbreak to use as needed.

To answer one of your other questions, the 3G iPhone is currently not unlockable by software. You can get one of the turno/stealth sims, but as of right now, there is no regular 3G unlock. I'm sure it will get there.

Hope that helps.

I'm never getting a 3G.

I don't like the look and its PLASTIC.

I'm sticking to my 2g... I can drop anytime and it'll be intact

Yeah. Did i tell you about the time I dropped my 3G and it totally disintegrated. The I dropped it again and it just became a pile of molecules. Lukcily Apple replaced it.

I dropped my 2G iPhone 6 floors down in Vegas.

Top left of the phone opened, but everything was still working... But I got in the car, sat on it, then it stopped working.
