yeah sounds like the touch screen is going bad. I guess you don't have the warranty huh?

man I love applecare! if i were in your shoes id open it up and try the repair myself, though with the first gen iphones the screen and glass are fused with the most intense superglue, I have never heard of anyone being able to get them apart wihout serious damage..

Default Weird screen alignment? I have the same problem

Surprised more people don't comment on this or seem to have this problem. You're the only other person I've some across in the world so far, but I think this must be a common problem.

Like you I though the phone must have been bumped and something shifted inside, until I noticed that it was the same even when typing in landscape mode. I tried all sorts of things and had no joy.

Them I found that when I restored my iphone to the default configuration in iTunes, the keyboard was right again, until I restored the backed up settings, when it went wrong again. Strange indeed, but it seems to be something to do with that second stage of restoring all your old apps and settings.

So maybe the solution is to restore, then set it up as a new iPhone instead of restoring your previously saved settings. That night be a pain, but I'm guessing that all the apps you've bought are attached to your iTunes account not your phone so you'll still be able to get them back. You'll lose your system settings and call/sms histories, but you can save them separately using an app like ifunbox without needing to be jailbroken or anything.

I am about to try this having given up on other options. I will post back in a couple of days and tell you how I've gone..

    Cheers.

Yes, that worked fine. I restored in iTunes, then set the phone up as a new phone, and the alignment remained good. Then I resynced my applications and music and all stayed good.

I did have to set up my email and calendar settings and all my preferences again, which was a slight pain, but I can live with that. After 3 months of typing north of the keys it seems weird now to type in the right place!
