If I currently have a plan can I upgrade it to that of the iPhone's and buy the phone. I want to keep my number and all that jazz and don't mind paying anything I just don;'t want to have to sign up all over again. Does anyone know if I can do this?

Yup, you sure can. You will just do it in iTunes, unless you bought it at the AT&T store, in which case they can do it right there for you.

Pretty sure this isn't accurate. I've read several times already "there will be no instore activation". Supposedly the iPhone is activated only on iTunes, so start downloading it now if you haven't already folks!

I watched that video on apple.com/iphone about the activation, and it has options for existing AT&T customers to add iPhone data to their existing plan for $20.

My question is, what's to stop everyone from going to Apple, and AT&T stores buying the maximum number of phones and dumping them all onto ebay for other GSM users to buy up (and not use visual voicemail, granted that an unlock comes out relatively quickly)?

Right, just double-checked with my ATT guy, activation is ONLY via iTunes. Which sucks for the ATT guys, cause it means goodbye to their $75 of commission. I hear thousands of sales people whining...
