Default Which iPhone have i got?
Hi all, totally new to the iPhone world but managed to get hold of the old one (not 3g) today from my friend.

He cancelled his contract to get the new 3g one so says the phone is locked, I want to get it unlocked so have been reading about it all day! But the simple thing i dont know is what version / generation it is.

I have looked at the settings and this is what it says:

    Version 1.1.2 (3B48a)
    Model MB213B

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

    i see your running xp.

update to the latest itunes, plug your iphone in and follow this guide:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.1 2G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows)

you will then be on the latest version with the appstore, and will be unlocked. this is allot simpler than you may think so dont over complicate it in your mind, just follow the steps 1 by 1 and you will be soughted in about 30 minutes.

modmyi have probably got a wiki but i personally use this one.

any problems feel free to PM me.

latest itunes is itunes 8 (with genius), and all the files needed for what you want are linked in that guide.

ahh, it seems quickpwn for windows does not activate the phone? can someone else just clarify this please? if so, i have a long winded solution for you that will work

im getting conflicted reports about activating in quickpwn. i dont know whether the windows version activates it when it unlocks, i guess it does otherwise the unlock would be useless, but some people are saying it doesnt.

    AND uncheck installer

^^Correct if you are unlocking. It will not activate. There are long-winded ways around it (cause otherwise it is useless).

I have just been shift-restoring a custom 2.1 firmware from itunes.

correct me if im wrong please, but if the phone has never been pwned before, a custom firmware will need to be created using winpwn (any firmware as 2.1 isnt supported yet) and then at the end, when the phone gets put into DFU mode by winpwn, shift+click restore to the DOWNLOADED 2.1 firmware NOT the newly created custom firmware.

simply putting a non-pwned iphone into DFU mode and restoring to custom firmware will throw up errors?

it seems that quickpwn fails. giving you the option to unlock an iphone, but not activating it is completely rediculous.

    however, follow this guide:

Jailbreak and Unlock 2.x on Windows - ModMyi - Wiki

you will only have to run this once, in the future you can just download custom firmwares and restore to them.

you need to follow this guide for the 2.0.2 firmware, once you reach the end and it puts you into dfu mode, shift+click to restore but dont shift+click to restore to the 2.0.2 firmware you have just created, download:

(cant find a direct link, but there are definitely files available to download from your favourite torrent sites such as the bay of pirates)

and then shift+click restore to that custom firmware.

i can't post links to torrents because of forum rules, but you want a custom 2.1 2g firmware with cydia + activate + unlock + youtube fix included in it. if it has installer aswell it doesnt matter.

    job done.

Well...it didnt work anyway, phone boots up but says it is waiting for activation! Im trying again but before i restore i need to know what firmware to restore?

yes, it will unlock and jailbreak it, but not activate it, which is why you need custom firmware, downloaded that provides the activation, as for some strange reason, quickpwn unlocks but doesnt activate?

    ill PM you
