I am about to upgrade to the firmware 2.1, but reading on one of the undocumented features, when you receive a text message, you get:

"New Text Message"

instead of

"Name of person - Text that they sent"

on your lock screen. I think that it is a lot more convenient to have the old way, is there anyway to get the old text message received notification back?

i tried i also tried using older firmware springboard.strings which is responsible for such events but none worked i even tried modifying the new one same thing

:s I'm using 2.1 and my texts messages are showing up like they always have.. im sure.

The person sending the text must be in your contacts for their name to show.

To clarify, TheBoyNextDoor and apummell, does it just show the name on the lock screen or does it show the name AND the message?

I am looking for a way to make it so that when I convert to 2.1, the name and message still appears.

Are u sure that it is 2.1? because here, it is part of the 2.1 update.

Weird.. I'm using fw 2.1 and mine shows the name & msg. Honestly I prefer having it say "text message" instead due to nosey people in my job. Hate that it is (was) only available when a password lock was placed.

yeah, im sure there are people out there that prefer it to say "new text message" for privacy reasons, but my phone is always with me and i am the sole person that uses it, so it is a lot easier for me to view the person and the message just by looking at the lock screen when a new text is received.

I think it only shows "New Text Message" if (1) the screen has turned back off after it lit up when the alert showed (2) if you don't have the number or (3) if you have the passcode enabled and "SMS Preview" disabled.


EDIT: I got one of my friends to send me a text after I turned the passcode on and SMS preview off. And it showed "New Text Message". So far that is the only time I've ever seen that notification. That up there were only guesses.

Hmm, has anyone else wondered why it says "text message" but on the icon on the springboard it says "SMS"?

I'd love it to just say 'New Text Message' without having to use the passcode lock feature!

yeah it shows new text message only when u have passcode on with sms preview off
if no passcode then name + message
