Whenever I receive a new email, the mail.app notification multiplies the number of new emails by a factor of 2. So if I have one new email it displays a '2' and if there are 2 new it shows '4' and so on. Has anyone come across this or know a fix for it? I'd hate to restore if there's a simple way to fix it...

do u have your email account saved on the phone twice as two seperate accounts with the same info..? and it might be on your mail servers side go and check the properties or settings. You can also try to remove mail account from from and then put back on.
