Unlocking means unlocking the phone to be used with a different carrier.

Jailbreaking means hacking the phone to allow modified files and code.

Get it right. Way too many people getting them confused.

You have to JAILBREAK the phone in order to install installer and have it run. You can't run any of these apps without jailbreaking the phone.

    Install on 2.0.X firmware sucks.
You need to read the guide at the top, and jailbreak it. It's very simple.

Yes you can jailbreak a 3g to get installer on it but I recommend Cydia. I used to like installer more but now Im a Cydia fan on 2.0.X

The poster did not mention anything about unlocking his phone. Learn to read properly before jumping in with your know-it-all opinions!

The poster seemed confused about the usage of the word, so it was perfectly justified.

He refered to doing the above mentioned without unlocking, meaning he was implying he must unlock his phone in order to install Installer.app, which is false because unlocking the phone would still not allow that.
