the screen should turn off so you cant press anything with your face. there is a perimeter sensor close to the ear piece that should sense that its up to your face turning the screen off until you move it away, try it with your hand. do you use a case?

Yes I use a case. My brother has an iphone 2g ad his does turn off when it is at his face.

maybe your case is blocking your sensor. you can see it under the right amount of light. it should be turning off so thats your problem.

If it is, all you have to do is hit the "power" button twice.

^^Cuts the screen off when your in a phone call. Useful if your case covers the sensor or I use it alot when I have earphones in or bluetooth to cut the screen off.

hmmm... i tried it and it hung up the call. i know if the phone rings, two taps of the power button forwards to voicemail. i'll have to try again.
