09-03-2008, 04:53 PM #1yet another problem, iPhone screen is blank/not on at all, searched with no luck...
I recently posted, I had error 1011... well I got past that but now... No screen... I have never seen the screen on at all. iTunes, iLiberty+, and all the program can see and talk to the phone now, but no screen...
Is there anyway for me to check and see if the screen is bad, or could this possibly be yet another software issue to do with the 1011 error...
Should I have any hope for this phone? what would apple say if I brought it into the store and ask them???
thanks again everyone, and yes I did search but didn't even see anything like this close to what my specific problem is, sorry if it's been asked a million times...Never underestimate the determination of a kid who is time rich and cash poor. (Little Brother by Cory Doctorow)

This would be one of the rare instances I've ever seen the cathode backlighting go out in the phone if a restore doesn't fix it. As far as repair, It'll likely cost more to buy a new LCD panel/backlight package to fix it than to replace the phone with a 3g.
Restore first, then plan on a replacement if that doesn't help. The iPhone uses a cathode tube and inverter built into the lcd for backlight.
Oh, here's one way to check though...... go over to a very bright light and hold it close with the phone on. You will be able to see the LCD icons on if the LCD panel is working. It'll be hard to see but you CAN see the screen without backlight.
If you don't see anything at all, the LCD and backlight is not turning on at all. This points more to a logic board failure IF a restore doesn't fix the drivers to make it fire back up.

checked with a super bright light i have on my shotgun (surefire) nothing on the screen at all looks like the screen phone is off, but its definitely on iTunes sees it and wants to sync... I'll try another restore but idk... damn it man
*update on my situation... I took it into my local apple store, and they swapped it out no questions asked... that was easy... If I had know they'd do that in the beginning I wouldn't have dumped like 20+ hours trying fix it and bashing my head on the desk in frustration... all well it's done now, thanks everyone for the help
