New text message pop-up?

Hey there, before I had the original 2G iPhone and whenever I received a text message while my phone was on sleep mode, it would activate a sound, and my screen would activate automatically, displaying the message on my lock screen.

Now, on my iPhone 3g, whenever i get a text message, i hear the sound, but my screen stays asleep. i have to open it and unlock it to view the message. is there anyway i can go back to the original 2g style?

i've tried researching this, but most people want it the other way around, and they try to get rid of it. i want that feature back so that whenever i get a text, my phone automatically wakes up and the whole text is shown on the lock screen. anybody?

Do this:

Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock -> Show SMS Preview - Set to 'On'

That should do what you're looking for .

There was a piece of software released about 2 weeks ago... some sort of call and SMS filtering application, I forget what it's called, but it caused me to have this same issue, where I would get the sound, but screen would not wake up to show me the message... Did you install any type of filtering software in the last little while? If so, I can (almost) bet money that is what is causing your issue then. When I uninstalled mine, SMS notifications started working as expected again.

Let me know!

I have the 3G and my screen "wakes up" whenever I get an SMS. I have changed nothing so I am guessing that there is some third party app effecting the way your SMS shows up.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That totally fixed the fact I was missing the "reply" and "close" buttons on my SMS pop ups. Thank you soooo much.
