Fixing a broken iPhone

Hey everyone, I'm going to buy a 1st generation iPhone for 50 dollars from a friend. It's condition however, is not very good:

It has:

-A cracked glass screen (LCD AND TOUCH PANEL IS NOT DAMAGED)
-An extremely scratched and worn metal back
-An extremely scratched antenna cover

So I decided to buy all of the parts on ebay for cheap instead of paying 250 dollars to fix it. All of these items come with free tools aswell.

Can I do it? If I replace all these damaged parts, theoretically would it be in "like-new" condition? I'm not selling it, I just really want a cheap iPhone.

I'll unlock it for T-Mobile later.

P.S. Such abuse to that iPhone makes me teary :'(

It's always seemed like a difficult process to me but I don't see why things wouldn't work out if you do everything carefully.
