Default Leopard -> 3G iPhone tethering with SLIRP/pppd

has anyone managed to get SLIRP/pppd tethering working using the version of SLIRP in Cydia on 2.0? I'm struggling getting Leopard to connect. This is being thrown up in the pppd debug log:

You need to add "quiet" to the pppd options.

However, that isn't enough, as it still doesn't want to send packets.
