what is the optimal amount of free space in system partition?

hi guys, i just used bosstools to check the free space in my root folder, and there was 17 mb left. is this enough? how much did we start with? i know that 300 mb is the system partition, but how much of it was already taken by then os and how much is left for use to install apps?
is having 17mb left gonna crash my phone? how much free space should i have, if i don't want to move my apps and ringtones, etc into the other partition (not really comfortable with that).
