itunes...restore using back up from old iphone?

hey everybody...

i had an phone and i backed it up on itunes..contacts pics..etc..

i sold it and i recently got a new one..in addition with a new carrier tmobile and new number...

my question is can i use the backup from my previous phone?
i see the old backup i want to use in the log when i go into itunes preferences...is there anything i can do to sync and use that old backup??
