Thread: iPhone 1.0.2 - "SafeUpdate"

  1. #1
    Default iPhone 1.0.2 - "SafeUpdate"
    So i was looking on the dev wiki and i saw mentioning of a "SafeUpdate"

    this would involve replacing the old files with the newly updated 1.0.2 files on our phones.
    this would allow us to keep all our hacks/mods and enjoy the benefits of the update.

    i found a list of files that have changed in 1.0.2:
    43 -> 1067 ./private/etc/resolv.conf
    1017 -> 1067 ./private/var/db/localtime
    -> 128 ./sizes.pl
    3262608 -> 3261992 ./System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/kernelcache.release.s5l8900xrb
    3262608 -> 3261992 ./System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/kernelcache.s5l8900xrb
    67707 -> 67315 ./System/Library/Extensions/AppleMultitouchSPI.kext/Info.plist
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Resources
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/Current
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/MultitouchSupport.framework/Resources
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/MultitouchSupport.framework/Versions/Current
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/OfficeImport.framework/Resources
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/OfficeImport.framework/Versions/Current
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/Resources
    1407008 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/System
    1407008 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/Versions/B/System
    0 -> 1067 ./System/Library/Frameworks/System.framework/Versions/Current
    12238 -> 8772 ./System/Library/Frameworks/TelephonyUI.framework/dtmf-#.aif
    751480 -> 751488 ./usr/libexec/lockdownd
    -- http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/ipho...r-new-features

    now heres where the problem is, i have tried to decrypt the firmware and look through it, but i cannot figure it out.
    i think it is a mac only thing (im on windows)

    EDIT: i came up with another idea; maybe someone who already updated to 1.0.2 can pull the updated files off their phone and package them
    this might be easier!

    so my question is; could someone package the updated files listed above so that we can transfer them to our 1.0.1 phones?

    in the future i think this would be a good alternative to actual updating (as it requires a restore for us with mods)

    hopefully someone on here is nice enough to help us out
    please comment

    awesome EmoRebellion!
    thanks a lot.

    hopefully others can benefit from this as well.
    ill test it out later.

    hopefully this way of updating works correctly works

    EDIT: wow, even in the correct folders n everything. nicely done!
    should be easy just to SCP these over in one quick transfer

    Yup, that was my thinking! Good luck, and let me know if you need anything else.

    Try just copying all the files over with SSH. Restart your phone and see if iTunes still tells you to update.

    i have yet to test it.
    im kinda skeptical about tryin it.
    but i remember this came up with the 1.0.1 update, and if i remember correctly it worked then.

    anyone wanna be the first guinea pig?
    as EmoRebellion said, be careful as it may brick your phone.

    EDIT: not sure if "SafeUpdate" was the correct word for this. hehe

    Well, in the worst case you will have to do a restore.

    doesnt work.

    well thanks for trying!

    did u try restarting ur phone after you replaced the files so the new ones take effect?

  18. #14
    I am liking this idea - if it truely file replacements, it should work. I will give it a try and reboot afterwards. My question is, the phonedmg directory will not then have the 1.02 update present. Will this cause any problem?

  19. #15
    No, you need to keep the 1.0.0 firmware inside of the phonedmg folder.

  20. #16
    Actually my phonedmg directory has 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 update files present. So I was wondering what may happen when and if my phone must be restored and I want to get back to 1.0.2 AND a modded operation using itunes and then a followup jailbreak.

    Hmmm...I looked at this. 28 files, 39 directories. It would be easy to miss one or two in the process. This calls for a batch file to copy this files over....anyone?

    scrowner, if you have ssh set up on your phone you can just scp all the files and folders over in one transfer.
    its very similar to an ftp.

    You should look into that regardless of this update idea.
    it really makes managing files on the phone MUCH easier

    and regarding re jail breaking, i have read the only the original 1.0 files are required and that it will jailbreak like any other version.
    This is not taken from my experience however, only what i have read

    Yep. Have Winscp....but did not do it for fear of something going wrong in the copy. (Like my Wifi droping...) So....waiting to hear success from someone else....
