brand new phone, want to customize but not clear on how

im buying a brand new iphone next week, and i plan on customizing it, like the icons and all that good stuff. do i need to "jailbreak" it or whatever? cuz im not sure on the exact steps i need to take to do anything to customize and modify it

yeah, you have to jailbreak it. if it is 1.1.3 firmware when you take it out of the box, then if i'm not mistaken you can't do anything to it. you can't downgrade the bootloader. That's the biggest thing. if you want you still could change the wallpapers and ringtones...but not the icons.
