Very Weird Activation Problem

Ok so I had a friend who I unlocked an iPhone for and it worked fine for a few weeks on 1.1.2. She then had problems with it and sent it to Apple to get it fixed. They sent it back working fine again still unlocked on O2-UK PAYG for some strange reason.
However, the problem is, they sent it back needing to be activated again. Is there an easy way to activate the iPhone again without going through the whole process? I tried it but I got an error (2003) and it gave me the white screen of death so I had to restart the phone.
Anyone got any ideas? ^^;
