Bricked Phone?

First week of sale purchased iPhone, was on 1.12 jailbroken.

Ran the "official" 1.13 updater from installer now phone is stuck on the screen with the plug and arrow pointing to the iTunes icon and iTunes on my Mac tells me:

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR IPHONE

We're Sorry, the iPhone you connected may be damaged and cannot be be activated for service.

NOW WHAT???

Turn off the iPhone and unplug it from your computer. Turn it on while holding down the home button. As it turns on, plug the usb cable into your computer. This should kick it into a recovery state that iTunes will recognise. Then shift+click restore and select firm 1.1.2 (I couldn't get a restore on 1.1.1).

From there, you should be able to downgrade to 1.1.1, boot up via Installer package, and then install oktoprep to upgrade back up to 1.1.2/1.1.3
