Moisture Indicator!? Please help

Hi all,

My 3 year old dropped my 2 day old 16GB 3G into the toilet bowl :-)
The phone is dead of course.

I waited 4 days and went back to the apple store to exchange it. The dude in the genius bar looked into the earphone hole with a similar device ear doctors use( small funnel like object with a magnifying glass on the other and) and let me know that the phone is dead because moisture got into it.
He came to that conclusion due to a small metal strip inside the whole which became bright red due to water.

Do you guys know anything about this? Is there a way to make it look "new" again?

Yep, it's there. Here's what it looks like on a Razr:

I don't know anything about faking it though. =/

Take a Q-Tip and put rubbing alcohol on it. Then stick it down the jack and rub it on the sticker. Alcohol will absorb the water turning it white again.
