Where can you get an iPhone with no strings attached

I would love to know if/where you can get an iPhone 3G with no contract, simply walk in and buy it! I live in the UK but going to America soon so both country's are ope for ideas (I'm not robbing somewhere).

Are their any good places on the web to buy it from, and not outrageous prices please. It would be great to know where you can get a good priced iPhone with no contract so if they do release the hack the place wont be in short supply. Thank You in advance

sorry you have to activate 3g's instore in the us. eBay has some for 700-900 US$
