Hello,
I've obtained an IPhone 4GB 1.1.1 week 39 with a strange problem.
Here are my symptoms:
Summary: It can charge but can't sync, and the home button doesn't work.
1) The home button doesn't work. This makes a hard reboot impossible.
2) My iPhone will not sync with iTunes. The computer doesn't even recognize it. (Tried multiple computers and cables, verified to be working with other IPhones)
3) The phone will boot up and get to the springboard, but if I plug in the charger it doesn't charge or recognize that it's plugged in. The phone will only boot up if it's NOT connected to the charge/sync cable. Otherwise it goes to the standard white restore mode screen. It's still not detected by the computer.
4) If I let the battery die down past the 10% left warning, it eventually shuts down and displays a red battery screen, along with icons indicating the phone needs to be plugged in. If I plug the phone in at this point, the icon changes to a lightning bolt, indicating it's charging. The phone eventually reboots and shows the restore screen. I know it's charging at this point too. If I let it sit for a few hours on this screen, the next time I boot it up I will have a pretty full battery charge. I say "pretty full" because on the Settings -> Usage screen it always says, "usage will be displayed once the battery has been fully charged"
My thought is there is a loose cable. Can anyone verify that the home button and the usb data connection travel over the same cable? I've heard mention of a data/home button connector here, so this might be what I need:

I saw in another thread (can't find it now of course) that if just the home button doesn't work, you need that part above. If the home button doesn't work, AND it has problems charging/syncing, it's just a loose cable. This is the cable I think they were refering to:

I was able to jailbreak and unlock the phone without a problem. I can't access the filesystem though, because for some reason openssh does not come up on my installer.app. I've installed Community Sources as well.
Anyone had an experience like this? Could this all just be a software problem, and if so, what do you recommend I do since I can't restore?
Would letting the battery completely discharge simulate a hard reset?
Thanks for your input...
update: I got the OpenSSH working and now have file system access...Any ideas? I tried replacing my lockdown file already without any success.
