Easy way to exit DFU mode
I recently got my iphone stuck in DFU mode when trying to upgrade to f/w 2.0
Looking around the forums I found serveral ways to get out of it (ibrikr, ziphone, iliberty) but none of these worked and itunes wouldnt let me restore (error 1601 i think)
so i was messing around and i finally got out of it just by holding power and home while connected to the pc,
thought i would post this becuase i havent seen it anywhere.
lemme know if it works for youTrying is the first step to failure

LOL, has been posted near a million times. I even wrote a guide for this a while back...
How to do get out of recovery mode on the iPhone 2G, 3G, and 3G[s]
1.Hold the home and power button down simultaneously

3. Release the home and power buttons when the apple logo appears

There's absolutely no need to restore the phone just to get out of DFU mode. Just do what Melech posted.

My 3GS is stuck in DFU Mode (jailbroken / unlocked via blackRa1n tethered) and is not starting or getting out of it at all. I have tried all combinations of holding the power button / home button plugged/unplugged but nothing is working. Can someone please help me get my iPhone out of DFU mode so I can run blackRa1n and start it up again? I really dont want to restore as it will get updated & I will loose my jailbreak/unlock... Please HELP!!

My 2G 3.1.3 (unlocked) was stuck in DFU and I tried holding both buttons (and some other things) with no result. Had to recover and unlock again. Is there a minimum time they have to be held? Does it have to be plugged in to PC before holding or after? Does Itune have to be running at the same time?

Worked fine for me.
Nobody should have to restore or anything like that. If it works on 1.1.4, it'd work on anything. The DFU handler is a chip (from what people have told me and what I have seen online) and so it should work. Please excuse me if I am wrong.
Don't do this incase iPhone/iPod touch messes up, but can you not drain the battery then charge? By drain I mean like a few months. It may not be worth it, but yeah..if you have a guinea pig iPhone/iPod around, try it.
