GPS on the iphone 3g

hey guys .. is there is a GPS device inside the 3g iphone or the GPS works through the 3g internet ?? in other words, if i disconnect the internet (edge, wifi, 3g) from the iphone, would i be able to still use the GPS ??

GPS is simply a system that locates you. Technically yes it would work but all you would get is a blue dot on a blank map. The internet is what provides the map that displays your location
