No email push on stanby and wifi?

I'm noticing that when I'm connected to a wifi network, my phone will not receive the push mail from my exchange server unless I take it out of the standby mode (ie it will not get mail in my pocket).

The problem seems to be non-existent or as bad when on edge.

Oh and btw, its a first generation phone.

i had this problem too.

what email service do you use?

and look under settings, fetch new data, advanced and make sure that address is set to push there also.

I'm using Microsoft exchange and yes I have checked the settings are on push. Any ideas?
