Thread: iPhone Will Not Shut Off!
01-05-2008, 03:14 PM #1iPhone Will Not Shut Off!
My phone works fine. My only problem is when i go to shut it off i get to the "slide to turn off". It acts like its turning off. I get the spinning circle and then it goes straight to the applelogo and starts to power up again. Any solutions?? Thanks.

While not connected, hold down Sleep and Home buttons for a few seconds until it powers off. Immediately let go of the buttons..

Maybe there's a daemon running that won't shutdown and causes an error, making the phone restart. If you're using 1.14 or lower, I'd say install UIctl and see what 3rd party daemons are running and see if you can shut them down before turning the phone off. If you're running 2.0, you'd need to SSH into the phone (or use Terminal) and go to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons and unload them manually.Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

when you mean unload, do you mean delete?

Just restore the iPhone.

Try Restore or if your not on 2.0 run SysInfo itll show running process's and you can Kill em

sucks same problem here.. what program did u guys use to hack your phone?
01-06-2009, 01:45 AM #12
same problem here... and i think it's hardware...
last night while having dinner i dropped some hot water over the phone... mainly the lower area....
i promptly turned it face down so the water would not go inside... i turned it off and left it for a few hours, after carefully cleaning it, to dry. When i came back i found it powered ON.
Now if i restart... it shuts down OFF then start's up again no matter if i hold the button on or off...
If i just leave it so the battery will die off it will turn on and off every 2 secs showing the low battery icon.
THE PHONE WORKS PERFECTLY APART FROM THIS.
I'll keep you posted

1-Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
2-If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again.Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
3-If that doesn't work, reset iPhone.Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

The iphone shuts OFF but then turns on immediatly.
TODAY... i fully charged the iphone and when fully charged i tried to turn it off again. It did the same thing again and then when i tried the second time... it shut off completely and stayed off. It now works properly.
ALL THIS FROM DROPING SOME HOT WATER ON IT.

i have the same problem wind overnight spilled my water and soaked my ipod touch in the water. i thought it was broken because when i turned it on the screen would just turn on it would look like it was booting and then the screen would just fade very fastly into white. i wait 2 days then i can finally turn it on it looks like it works fine it was fully functional until yesterday i turn it on and immediately it turns on. i take it apart i have my volt meter and apparently some water or something got to my dock connecter and is shorting out the pins that'll the ipod to turn on when i plug it into a wall or my computer so i think im just gona wait till the rest of the water dries until i use it. i can still do everything fine i just cant keep it off! so i will wait for it to start working gain lol
ok ijust went to plug it in on my mac and it will not recognise it at all!

I had the same issue yesterday but went away in an hour or so... Today my iPhone 2G would not turn off, it just kept restarting once it shut down. This went on for like 20 min ahhhh! Got pissed off, went to the air compressor and blew the sh*t outta it lol First try getting the slide to shut down, slide, it shut down! Yay! lol I dunno what was going on but something was playing tricks with the iPhone.
Just thought I would toss this out here as its an older topic.
