iPhone 3G battery update, and a must have app!
So for the last 3 nights, I have let my phone completely die (to the point that I see the red battery that says connect to power) and recharged it overnight, and I can honestly say that I notice a difference in battery life. And the battery guage seems to be more accurate. Before it seemed to drop to about 1/2 very quickly, and then pause there for a while between 1/3 - 1/2, and then quickly drop to the red zone. But then I would get lots of juice in the red zone. The first time I drained it fully, I got ~1 hour of video use AFTER I got the 10% warning! Now after 3 complete drains / recharges 3 days in a row, the battery indicator seems to more accurately reflect what's actually left.
The other thing I noticed is that the battery life is WAY better with 3G turned off. For most things I find that I don't really need the 3G turned on. I don't really notice a difference in call quality, and I'm not surfing the web or watching youtube very much outside of wifi (but I do sometimes...). Even using the GPS with google maps in my car works perfectly over edge.
Which brings me to the must have app... Somebody needs to put an app into the app store which lets you easily toggle 3G on and off! Kinda like the services app that was available through installer. I know it's not that big of a deal to navigate through the menus and just do it, but still... I would definately pay a couple of dollars for that!If my post was helpful to you, hit the thanks button!

You do know you can easily turn 3G on and off by going through your settings right?

It would be sweet if it would only turn 3g on when opening safari and turn it off when safari is closed.

But what if you're using WiFi with Safari? You don't want it to turn on 3G when its not even going to be used.
Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

Most batteries have to cycle a few times to "loosen" up if you will, and you'll get a little better life out of them. But hey, for having the phone pulling power.....a gps chip (when used) pulling alot of power....and 3G (when used) pulling alot of power, for this size phone Apple didnt do to bad.
I remember having a Treo and buying an "extended" battery for it....its was like taping a brick to the back of my phone.

Yea i would love a quick shortcut for turning the 3g on and off, because I usually just turn it on for safari then off again straight after!

If your jailbroken just install SBSettings and swip your finger across the time from left to right or right to left and boom drop down menu with 3G, Wifi, Brightness, Ect you can add your own toggles that you want and personalize it with different THEMES. Hope this helps!
Just realized how old this thread was after i re-read some of the posts. Damn.Last edited by vantheman169; 11-03-2009 at 08:31 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
