well even though 3g is a tad bit slower than the wifi, but the signifiance of 3g is that is can be used anywhere(correct me if im wrong) and wifi requires you to be in a hot spot of a wireless router connection.

You're not entirely wrong...3G IS available everywhere. That 3G is available. If that makes sense.

It all depends on the coverage wherever you and your iPhone find yourselves. Metropolitan Los Angeles - probably. Casper, Wyoming - probably not.

and then the diff in cost is there too....i m not sure about US but in my country of residence (with it's telecom monoploy) a 3G data plan is expensive.

This is also relative to whats behind the wifi. If you have a 512 or 768 DSL line with 3 systems on a network sharing that and you connect to wifi, your sharing that bandwidth and might have 100 or 200k speeds. So, 3g is going to look pretty snappy. Now, if you have a fast cable or fios on wifi, then the wifi will beat 3g hands down.

If not as straight forward as wifi vs 3g really. It depends what is feeding the wifi.

Our 3G is like 300Kb, so HANDS DOWN wifi wins !!!!

People are hyping 3G way to much. For starters, it isnt everywhere, I have had a 3G phone and I usually never had it. Second of all, its not that fast at all, **** wifi smokes the living **** out of 3G.

3G is over hyped waste of battery.
