Issues with 3g and intermitten white screen

So i picked up a 3g this morning, and since activation (had gen1 iphone) it's intermittenly giving me a white screen with streaks of color through it. screen still works when it's doing this, but I can't see anything. Best way to describe it would be solid white, and looks like someone kinda punched the screen.

anyone else having this problem?

I'm on the phone with apple, but i'm assuming a new model iphone will be out by the time I get to their support

Try a restore. (Not from a backup, but a fresh copy)
It could work, but if it doesn't, trade it back in.
