GPS question
So I was wondering how the GPS on the iphone works exactly.....
Is there a required plan you have to purchase to get gps working on does it just use up your data from wifi / edge / 3g to render where you are and then the gps unit does it's own thing of finding you and moving along when you move.....
Thanks.

I do believe that $10 hike in data plan price is to cover GPS and 3G use.

They charge a monthyl fee for GPS on all other smart phones so I don't see why the extra ten isn't coveing that either.

So just to confirm the GPS is free and you just need some sort of data whether it be edge 3g or wifi to load the map right?

but I thought the map goes through google so shouldn't it be free?....... Well this is more confusing like here are a few things I'm wondering
like example I have a iphone 3g in canada and I move to another country and use that countries sim and have 3g...... how does that affect gps?

I was referring to other smartphone programs. Things like TomTom navigator simply use NAVSTAR and provide you with the maps. With the iPhone at&t won't charge you(yet, seeing as how TomTom wants to release an app) Also GPS works pretty much anywhere(you might have a fairly weak signal at the north pole) and its free so dont worry about it
