Are there any settings to enter when jumping on wi-fi when out and about?

My Wi-fi works when im at home, so i thought it was ok, but when i try to connect to available networks in public places, it will connect to the network for maybe a minute, then it stops.

Im guessing there's a basic setting that i'm missing here? any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!

My iphone was unlocked using iliberty+ if that helps..

..Wanted to add that my edge works fine.. just not the 'free' public wi-fi..

and my VPN says 'not configured'.. does this have anything to do with it???

Have you tried going over to a friend's house to try WIFI? In my experience just because you can connect to a wifi network in public doesn't mean it's free.
