restore problem

i purchased this iphone from a coworker and it was locked...i wanted to unlock it so i put my sim in and put it into itunes...nothing happened it said i couldnt do anything cuz it was unauthorized...so i put my friend's at&t card back in there and a pop up came to update it to 1.1.4...i saved the file, put the iphone in restore mode and clicked restore +update...now it seems the iphone starts out well...it resets and then i see the apple sign and something swirling at the bottom...then it says restoring iphone on the computer and about 1/4 the way through the iphone restarts and goes back into restore mode idk wat to dooo help please, btw after it goes bak into restore mode, the restoration freezes. also when i unplug it and reset it, it pops up the apple logo and resets constantly

im not too sure its the one where it shows a picture of the itunes logo and under it is a picture of the wire that hooks it up to the computer
