Goes straight to voicemail in full bar service area

I have searched around and have not found anything on this.

I've had my phone for a decent amount of time, 3 months to be exact. My issue is I have talked to a good amount of people who when they "finally" get through they say they have been trying a few times, but it just goes to voicemail. It even happens when I am in full-bar service areas so I was wondering if this happened to anyone else?

AT&T said it could be a bad SIM card, so they replaced it, but it is still happening. Thanks.

Two reasons that may be the answer to your problem:

1. Full bars does not mean that your cell tower has enough channels to handle your call. If a tower is full the call will go to VM...

2. Do you have your iPhone set to fetch your email every so often over the cellular network? If so, every data call will trigger incoming calls to go to VM. If this is your case, then try reducing the frequency you check you email or switch to the iPhone 3G that allows simultaneous data & voice.

I was just having the same problem with my wife's jailbroken iphone 2g. Just turn off push data under settings/accounts and you should be reciveing calls again.

I have this problem in the UK also. I phoned O2 and the solutions seem to be:
1. turn off 3G when you don't need it
2. turn off VM and then turn on again
3. Reboot the phone

These are an either/or list...you don't have to do all three!

I've written to customer services about this and a number of issues i have. I don't really want to turn off 3G on a 3G iphone
