Default possible recessed headphone jack fix w/o an adapter

i apologize if this has already been suggested, but i wonder what wires or other hardware lie around the recessed headphone jack, as im suggesting scraping around the edge of the jack to remove some of the outer shell to make it bigger and hence accommodate larger headphone plugs. i have never seen the inside of an iphone so i dont know if this is possible. but for those of you that have seen the inside, if there is space around the entrance to the headphone jack, could the entrance be widened?

I don't have an answer to your question, but instead of f'in with the phone itself, why not use the exacto knife method? Just take an exacto knife (or any knife, I guess), and cut of a little of the rubber/plastic from the headphones that doesn't allow them to fit into the jack...

So rather than buy an adapter for $3 you're gonna damage your phone?
