Iphone firmware 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 questions, nuances

So I am still running my unlocked 1.0.2 iphone and somewhat tempted to run the newer firmware. I have a few question right now however that really need to be answered.

1. Particularly and most important, I find it annoying that each time I turn the display on to access the controls, I have to do the finger slide to unlock.

a. are there any programs third party or in the new firmware that removes this really annoying step?

2. A question about the new home button function (double tap home button to access itunes control)...

a. Does this function work when the display is locked meaning the screen is off, I double tap home button, does the iphone control show up?

I just find these screen unlock function really annoying about our iphones and wish there was a way to remove it all together because each time, I have to do like 3 or 4 steps just to change the song or play back a song.

Yeah, as a matter of fact, 1.1.1 and above allows you to double click the home button while the screen is locked to access a HUD of the iPod controls. Its a pretty nifty feature, and one that I use all the time.
