Best to install SSH and use an FTP client like Transmit (Mac) or WinSCP (PC) to log into your iPhone.Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

You're assuming I would have WIFI access.. right? That's not the case here nor should it be to connect to my iphone.

You probably need to install the afc2 service - iPhoneBrowser uses the same access as iphone explorer so it will likely have the same problem.
Search for afc2 or try this post:

All I see is AFP and AFPd
No AFC nor AFC2 in installer for some reason looking under ALL APPLICATIONS

If you don't have wifi, I occasionally use the Iphone PC suite, download link is somewhere on this forum.

I installed WinSCP but how do you log in to the iphone? The WinSCP on my desktop is showing WinSCP login. But I have no idea what to do with the tabs on the left which shows:
