Angry Iphone acting generally sluggish, and other problems, please help!

I am an AT&T customer, my phone is purchased from them, locked, and I have the $20 data plan. The iPhone is firmware 1.1.1.

I've had the phone for about a week now. It was fine for several days, until recently. The phone is pretty heavily modded, I have several hacks and apps on it, and I have done some heavy customizing of the phone via Customize.

Recently I have noticed the phone acting pretty sluggishly. It lags often in the menus, I usually have to lock/unlock the phone for the home screen theme to appear, reception seems spotty sometimes, and I am getting these messages saying that "I am not subscribed to EDGE" and "Data roaming is disabled." Even though I am subscribed to EDGE and I am not roaming.

I'm pretty sure these things are unrelated to my phone's hardware (though it could be a possiblility) I get the feeling that I may have modded the phone to heavily.

So does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I think restoring the firmware would be a last resort, and I REALLY don't want to exchange my phone for a new one.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

try a reboot on the phone by holding power and home button down until the apple logo appears on the phone.

EDIT: After reading posts around, I've read that customize is a pretty bad program and can really **** up 1.1.1. If this is true, will uninstalling customize solve the problem?

Actually, this surprisingly seems to have worked. You mind telling me exactly what this reboot did?

It seems alot of these 3rd party appz sometimes stay running in the background even if you turn them off. Doing a hard reboot as instructed above seems to stop them. Kinda like rebooting a computer...

Interesting... because turning the phone off by just using the power button didn't really do anything. Anyways, this fixed it, thanks alot!

just a noob question. After installing a software via installer, when i exit to home, you can notice that the spinning spiral is loading, in which my phone will then be (keypad) locked? Is this normal?
