iPhone not charging/ cannot be detected with PC
Hey,
My iPhone has been working great -- all until today
The battery was getting a bit low today at work, so i attempted to plug it in to one of the computers via USB cord - but the phone would not charge (at least it doesn't say that it's charging, but its been at 10% battery for the past few hours).
So, I got home and tried the wall charger AND using the dock as well - still, the iphone doesnt say it's charging (no green battery on the screen and no lightening bolt on the top right hand corner).
To make it even worse, the computer does not even detect the iPhone when i plug it in. I've tried doing a reset (home button + power button) but still a no go.
Anyone have any idea what i can do? Thanks

Restoring will not fix this problem. The phone charing is a HARDWARE interface so your only option really is warranty repair.

Sometimes I have problems with the USB port on a PC Laptop. But it always works with the Dock wall charger. Like Poseidon79 says, probably a hardware problem.

reason i dont think it is hardware is because the phone charges in my car (using my Alpine KCE-422i cable) AND it does charge with the PC/wall, just the phone doesn't know that its charging - but if i leave it plugged in overnight, and turn it off and on in the morning, it has full battery again

If after a successful factory restore = complete hard drive reformat and new OS installation you are STILL having issues it's hardware. Take it to apple.

i had the same problem
after the computer wouldn't charge it then the wall charger stopped working.. the only thing that worked was the car charger i was freaking out.. i set an appointment with apple but was scared because i couldn't restore.. then the fix came from the internet.. you have to completely uninstall itunes then reinstall it.. i know it sound's dumb but it worked for me as soon as i reinstalled the computer found the phone no problem.. then i restored and the wall charger work's again... i barely fixed it yesterday so give it a try and let me know how it goes

Okay, so i've tried the following with no luck:
- reinstalled older version of iTunes (the one that i used to unlock the phone) and putting phone into DFU mode -- phone still not detected
- installed newest iTunes and tried DFU mode -- phone still not detected
- changing USB wires / changing ports
- deleting some apps that i loaded on from installer
I'm out of ideas here - anyone?

Ok, so I've tried it with a firewire and it seems to know that it is charging with the firewire.
So, it must have something to do with the voltage being put out since the firewire gives off about 30v, my car puts out about 12v, and the USB puts out the least amount at 3v.
I'm lost at how i can rectify this situation.

Sorry to hear you have this problem as well.

Mine iPhone has been like this for a couple months now. Same symptoms.
I am in Australia so it's pretty much useless and can't do anything about it!

it could be your port, or it could be the pins on the phone that get power for usb, this is y firewire may work. just continue to use firewire. do a restore and return to apple for a replacment. just make sure u restore with itunes back to stock and if you still have problem get a new phone
