iPhone not booting due to corrupted /etc/passwd file ?

Hello everyone. I think I got a big problem here ... My iPhone got in a "Edit home screen" loop when i changed the root password using the passwd command. Then I read somewhere that I should restore the original /etc/master.passwd and /etc/passwd files which I did, but it seems something went wrong. I tried rebooting the iPhone and now it never reaches the user interface. It just keeps rebooting and iTunes does not detect it so I can restore it. Any ideas on what I could do ? Is it broken for good ?

Put it into DFU restore mode and restore in iTunes.

DFU: Boot phone. Hold power and home button until the screen goes black. Let go of power but continue to hold the home button. Your screen will remain black. Plug into iTunes and within 10-15 seconds it will register in restore mode. Let go of home and hit RESTORE. Next time don't change any passwords.

hole down home and the power button until it reboots with the connect to itunes symbol. the DFU restore mode usually fixes all problems
it takes around 20 secs and keep the phone plugged in and itunes running

I did the step above (there's no internet on that computer)

doees it matter? cause it keeps giving me an error about not being able to connect to internet
