i figured it out last night if you have a program called pysl or something like that uninstall it, its the program thats a sms cleaner and filtering tool, i restored my iphone twice before i figured it out, had to reload each program i had before one by one and send myself text msgs until the sound was gone, i hope this helps

thnx man , had that problem 2.
edit : u can also install pysl and then enable it, then go to settings in pysl and enable vibration, status bar and alarm. Now u should get pop ups and sounds when u get a SMS.

THANKS sensei74. Your "PySL" tip helped me out too. I simply had to DISABLE it by turning it to OFF mode & RESTART the phone & my SMS alert sounds were back-alive & kicking. Thanks again.

I had the same problem after installing Pysl.
Try disabling Pysl first then go to it's Settings & switch to OFF position all settings i.e. Vibration, Status Bar, Alarm, SMS privacy & Block Hidden Call.
Then enable Pysl & go to Settings & switch to ON position all settings again.
This solved the problem for me.
