    im thinking of getting the ipad 2 and would like to view some of my videos on it im aware the native video app only plays mp4 and i have a few avi files and some mkvs which i would like to watch so is there a third party app that does the job well. i installed vlc on my iphone4 a while bak and now that its been pulled out can it be installed to the ipad when i sync it ?

    You should be able to install it on your iPad 2 through iTunes. I haven't tried this personally since I am waiting for my iPad to arrive but it should work.

    yeah i noticed that it in itunes it seperates the ipad compaitable ones any other alternatives though?
    its a pain eh they take too long to ship :P

    I got mine on Friday and I can confirm that vlc media player if u have it in iTunes u can sync in with the iPad same for evryother app

    You also can try Air video or Gomplayer, Air video let you to stream video from computer or internet, Gomplayer can play many types of video files.

    You want AVPlayer HD. It plays most files (including .mkv) straight from the iPad, without the need to convert or stream.

    The iPad 2 can also handle 720p with no stuttering too.

    I've tried air video and zumocast. Will buy and try av player soon what is this gom player u speak of.

    You could try VLC steamer it's a little different since it streams to the iPad from a computer but it seems to work pretty well and it'll play any format since it's not playing on the iPad itself.
