Default AppleCare Protection Plan for iPad 2 Worth it??
Hi, I was wondering if anyone here who has experience with the AppleCare Protection Plan could give me some insights on whether or not it would be worth paying for. I'm going to buy my iPad 2 soon and I'm not sure if I need a protection plan. What are the pros and cons? BTW I will be jailbreaking whenever that becomes available, and I will be planning to use it in college. Thank you so much!

I recommend you get yourself a laptop/notebook if you need something for school. An iPad is a good enough device to read texts from, nothing more.

iPad is perfect for school in my opinion. I would get it if I were you. The glass is so easy to scratch. I now have two long scratches around the front camera. I babied this thing so I don't know how it got scratched.

The iPad only just came out and you have 2 scratches on it already? Tell me the pros that you can possibly see in using an iPad at school...

You can read texts only if your texts are available through the Internet.
You'll type faster on a solid keyboard rather than a touchscreen one.
You can't run more than one application simultaneously without completely changing the window.

Those seem to be the deciding factors when buying an electronic product for academic purposes if you ask me. I wouldn't but an electronic device for school if it weren't able to perform those simple tasks.

I use Evernote to take my notes in class on my iPad. I own an HTC Evo and I use wireless tether so I have internet wherever I go which is why I didn't buy the 3G model. I also own a Bluetooth Mighty Keyboard (Apple) which I use to type my notes on.

I have no clue how I got the scratches on there since I literally cradled this thing from the unboxing. I went to Radioshack, Target, Best Buy and there are no screen protectors available. I managed to just buy the smart conver thing for the time being and because I need it propped up so I can type my notes.

The multitasking isn't that big of a deal. I don't need to have two things opened at once because when I'm in class during a lecture I just have my Evernote pulled up. During a break I'll browse the internet or play a game and pressing the home button twice doesn't take long.

I don't need to have Facebook opened just so I can read someone is taking a shower.

I got it for my iPhone 4, haven't needed it yet. Just take care of your device and you should be fine. If you can't find screen protectors locally, order one online. hhhhhhhmmmmmm, might do that soon so I have it when I get home and get my iPad 2. Same with my case.

I will be skipping on the Apple Care though for my iPad 2.

Hmmm, I really dont know guys.. iFixit rates the repairability score for the iPad 2 at 4/10 so that kinda makes me afraid.

I always purchase the protection plan... better to be safe than sorry. I have used it on a couple of my products and it is nice when in need...

Extra protection is a good thing I got it on my first iPhone and used it twice so I highly recommend it if you have the cash for it

My ipad 2 had a blurry black dot near the center of any pictures taken. Apple swapped it out with no problem.

However I did not get applecare on an ipod touch (4th gen) which now has the same issue. Must be dust inside the camera lens. No way to repair and out of warranty. Wish that had applecare.

I think I will be adding it to the ipad2. ebay has best prices.

I got AppleCare for my iPad 2 3G, and I'm glad I did. Within days of receiving it, I noticed I had the light bleed problem, I made an appointment with the local Apple Store, and they swapped it out in less than 10 minutes, no problem. I didn't pay the full retail price for it, less than half, in fact, so I think it was definitely worth it. I ended up getting AppleCare for the iPhone 4S and my Apple TV as well. Better to have the piece of mind.

I use my iPad at school for everything. I use Evernote for sociology works great I can type and record my lectures at the same time. And I use pages well for just about anything, pages is probably the best apple has and it's worth the money. I use wolfram for math and that works equally as great. Khan academy is a website where they can tutor you on just about everything. I don't know why this guy is hating on iPads for school i think everyone should have one. Plus it's better for the environment laptops are energy hogs, there huge, and no auto spell correct.
