Thread: iPad 2 Resolution

  1. #1
    Default iPad 2 Resolution
It's been rumored and I'm we all hope that the next iPad will sport the retina display. But I looked at it a little closer and thought about it some. If it does it'll be a monstrous resolution.

The original iPhone went from 320x480 to 640x960.
That's 4 times the pixel density or just twice the size of each side.

If the same goes for iPad 2 that means 1024x768 will be 2048x1536!!

2048x1536 is a huge picture!! Yeah it'll look stunning but now it doesn't even seem realistic. That's a better resolution than my iMac. What are your guys' thoughts??

In order to have the "Retina display" it must have the same pixel density per inch which is 326ppi. The iPad already has a density of 132ppi so to go up to "retina" quality = 2.47 times. This would equate to final resolution of approx 2529 x 1896. This will never happen but I can see it getting better than it is now.

BTW someone double check my math in case I screwed it up.

  5. #5
Yeah you're right it would be determined on ppi, and your math is all correct. 2529x1896 doesn't make any sense and I think Apple is going to stay with the 3:4 ratio so I doubt 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. 1920x1440 is 3:4 ratio. I would believe that over anything.

Oh did a little more math and the actual iPhone resolution is 329.65 ppi. Apple is being modest by 3.65 pixels...

In the same boat as you there. I have iPhones for everyone in the family and a iPad. Even my two kids have their own iphones (just for games, no sim in them) and they are 3 and 1. Pretty good testament to ease of use when a 1 year old can unlock and play games on a iPhone. She didn't even have issues with folders when 4.0 came out.

Haha that's awesome. My niece loves using my iPad. She'll play with cat piano for hours!

You're fine until you've taped a cutout of Jobs' head over hers in your wedding photos.

    LOL epic

I doubt that Apple will do anything big with resolution, a retina display on iPad sounds expensive... But I don't know.. Oh and my son has his own page of apps, he is two and a half lol. He loves cat piano, and the koi pond.

To me, a higher res screen won't determine whether or not I will buy the next gen. Then again, I am very satisfied with the current model. What I want to see is a memory boost, maybe 1GB, why not?
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

A memory boost would be nice. So would a front facing camera. Pretty sure we will see those two additions on iPad 2.

Front facing camera, and memory boost should be in the bank

Yeah I at least hope they up the resolution just a little. It'd make reading a little nicer.
