Looking for very high quality video tips

I am trying to convert some videos for my kids with perfect pic quality. Looking for DVD quality.

I used Videora last night, several tries with different settings and the quality was not there and the image size did not fill up the screen.

Please discuss your techniques for beautiful video images.

I rip with DVD Fab to eliminate copy protection.

Then what?

I use handbrake on my macbook pro. Works good with good quality. you can also specify file size and res, stuff like that.

For handbrake to work does the DVD already have to be burnt or does it do it for you?

The high profile or the appletv presets work fine. I use a slightly tweaked setting. But the 2 mention work fine too.
