If you look at the iTunes 9.1.1 news thing we have on the front page it says it already. Do not update if you want to use the Spirit jb that is coming out.

Musclenerd said that the (new) iTunes can detect userland jailbreaks, which is what most new ones will be based off of. Id recommend not updating as they've suggested. Geohot isn't doing a jb for a little while, but comex announced that Spirit is coming out on Friday.

The next JB will use a userland jb but I doubt the 4.0 one will be the same.

Rule of thumb is that you NEVER upgrade to the latest and greatest thing that Apple releases.

I thought it was said that the new itunes didn't do anything to the jailbreaks or the ability to do the spirit one when it comes out ?

It was confirmed on comex Twitter page that updating the iTunes software did not affect the jailbreak
