iPad TV out restrictions!?!?!?!
So I went out and purchased the Apple video cable in hopes of watching movies from netflix or through ABC.. Or any third party app but guess what?! Video doesn't work of course except from native apps like YouTube or Video. This sucks!

I already see the Mobile Substrate Addon for when the jailbreak is released. Lol.

I finally got a chance to test this today, and I'm pretty sure this is not entirely an intentional restriction. Air Video has always worked with no problem for me on the cable with my iPhone, but no longer did with the iPad. however, it uses a different API to play the video on the iPad, in order to make more use of the extra screen space. I just loaded the old iPhone version of Air Video, and it plays just fine through the Apple cable on my iPad.
I can also stream movies to my flatscreen via the iPad off my home server using Safari.
Bottom line, I think that developers just need to figure out a way to use the old API to play video when using an external screen. I'm going to write to the author of Air Video about that ASAP.
Edit: Just went to the Air Video forums, and the question was already answered there: "Should be fixed in next update."
So, as I said earlier, this is a developer issue, not an Apple restriction.Last edited by DaveiPhone; 04-22-2010 at 04:44 PM.

Yes I hope they fix this because I was planning on buying the cables to hook up the ipad to my TV to watch movies from netflix etc.
If not, then we'll have to wait for a jailbreak to use something like screen splitr.

I do think that lots of folks writing to them might help.... I sure agree Netflix is a must, and I just called them. They said they hope to have the feature soon. I also have tried the service while tethered to my iPhone over 3G, and it was smooth as silk. =) Of course, if I started watching movies that way on a regular basis, it might send up a giant red flag on my account, but it's nice to know it works!

Video Out not working in netflix and abc has nothing to do with apple or 3.2 software. It is a Public API now to allow Video out from 3rd party apps. It is the responsibility of the developer now to implement said api protocol to allow video out. Complain to ABC and Netflix and maybe eventually they will update it to allow TV Out

Is it as simple as replacing the iapd file again? I have a 3rd party av cable that I want to use.
