iPad FAQ
The ultimate iPad FAQ, with updates!
What's an iPad?
The iPad is a mobile device created by Apple. It is basically a large tablet device, in resemblance to the iPhone and iPod touch.
3G iPad?
An iPad with a 3G radio built-in will also be available, along with the WiFi-only version for $130 more. 3G service costs $15/month or $30/month from AT&T if you're in the US.
When can I get one?
The WiFi-only model is expected to be for sale in late March. The 3G version will be available in April.
Pricing?
16GB: $499
32GB: $599
64GB: $699
Want 3G? That will be an additional $130 and monthly service charges:
250MB: $14.99/month
Unlimited: $29.99/month
Will there be accessories?
Of course. Apple has already announced their own case, dock, and adapters. There will be other third-party accessories soon.
Can I use the Apple bluetooth keyboard I already have?
Yes, you can. Just connect via bluetooth on the iPad.
Jailbreak?
There will most likely be a jailbreak, since it's based on the iPhone OS. If it is, most jailbroken apps will run fine.
Is the 3G version unlocked?
You bet it is. However, it uses a micro-SIM and is not compatible with a regular SIM, like the one you'll find in your iPhone. However, you can always cut your SIM, resizing it to fit.*
Can I make calls over VoIP?
Yes. Apple has lifted the VoIP over 3G networks in their latest SDK. The iPad even has a built-in microphone and speaker.
What if I already have 3G on my iPhone? Can't I just tether?
Yup. Just use the iPad's WiFi to connect.
Can I get any of this iPad stuff on my iPhone or iPod touch?
Unfortunately, no. We'll just have to wait for firmware 3.2 or 4.0 from Apple.
Want the iPad wallpaper for your iPhone or iPod touch?
Here you go.
More questions?
Feel free to ask below.
* You will not be able to put the micro-SIM back into your phone after it is cut unless you have an adapter.Last edited by dstn1211; 01-31-2010 at 10:54 AM.

iPad 3G usage
Has anyone heard about AT&T's iPad plans? I already pay $29.99 for my iPhone data plan and am curious if I need to purchase a separate iPad plan or if I'm able to "bundle" both devices under the same plan.

i am wondering about iPhone apps and their compatibility on an iPad. I bought (pre-ordered) and iPad because i see myself using iTeleport and Jaadu VNC to remotely work on the servers i support. (currently, i do this from my iPhone and squinted eyes). So, i wrote the owner of the Jaadu apps..;

hello,
i am an owner of both iTeleport and Jaadu RDP. i use both products all
the time on my iPhone 3GS. they work great.
I pre -ordered an iPad because i thought it would be much easier to
use the app on a larger screen. Will your apps support the iPad in
full screen mode?
thanks,

I need Help- US Ipad In UK-Novice
My girlfriend got me an Ipad from New York YEsterday. I Live in London England. Ive never used any apple products before but i am really excited.
When I plug my ipad in and download itunes it asks me to register my ipad to use it. However do i register it in the uk. I have read that i can then buy a us itunes account voucher and download apps without the need for a us credit card.
Can someone please run me through the steps of what i do to set up my ipad and how i can start getting apps for it. I really am a novice at this so be patient, I.m Just really desperate to play around with the thing
Thanks

I have not seen any OFFICIAL International power adapters yet. Can a run of the mill Int. Low-Power adapter work? I know it has to be a low power adapter (under 50W) as other hi power ones are NOT recommended for laptops or other electronics thus not safe for the iPad.

Apps store in Canada
Just adding to the question of how to access the apps store for international users, I have read that the only way to get any of these iPad apps from the apps store is to have a us credit card and or us iTunes gift card. Trying to download iwork from the canadian apps store in impossible. Any information would be awesome, thanks for your time Wilson.

Nice Guide.
Glad to know that you can cut your regular sim card to fit micro sim size.
I don't have AT&T and it looks like the new iphone will also work with micro sim card..... at least according to the pictures from Gizmodo!!

So if this is going to be stickied, shouldn't it be updated every few months? Most of the "Questions" have obsolete info.
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix
