the iphones speaker is pretty weak and distorts easy.

I tried it, maybe it's me but it doesn't sound any louder.

they are louder.... although its still not very audible in a loud environment.
ive noticed the same thing.
but if u amplify them anymore, they just distort on the phones speaker.
maybe changing the sound completely might be a better idea.

just change the tone altogether... mine is a 7 second sound clip.

you can still amplify those files without clipping, they work nicely once you amp them up a little more.

What program are you using to amplify the sounds?

Audacity works well.

While on the topic of speaker volume and capability before distorting, I
have a question that I was hoping someone here wouldn't mind answering.
====
Short version:
====
does the iPhone have a pair of speakers or just mono??
====
Longer, "if-you-got-nothin-better-to-do", version:
====
Ever since the first day I have had my iPhone, in the back of my mind I have wondered if my iPhone is broken and there should be a pair of speakers, or is it correct that I only have one speaker (left side, next to dock connector)?? At times, it seems fine, but in my experience thus far I've noticed that every time I opt to place a call on speakerphone, I end up having to hold the phone so close to my ear that I might as well just be listening with the added clarity provided by the seal created when holding the phone up to my ear as though I didn't have speakerphone to begin with! if this was by design, it seems pretty f**king weak...I'd have preferred it to be a very small amount larger and have proper output volume.
Thank you for your time and assistance regarding this issue, and have a great weekend!
