    Damm, another off-topic post.
Thanks Jato for the info, here is an rather old guide on how to mount iOS firmwares under Linux. The principle is still the same today (done it with iOS6), but some of the packages have newer versions.
Nothing is impossible only miracles take a bit longer!

Ras. You were right About WeatherUnderground. Loaded their app on my phone for the drive home from Upstate New York to Philly. And it was updating at least 30% more often than WeatherWidget (Yahoo).

WW's engine was great yesterday - only had to "unstick" it three times in a 4 hour journey. Awesome.

But when I saw "Entering Village of.." Or "Enterting Town of" signs along the road... Weather Underground had it nailed 97% of the time within seconds to a minute. WOW!!! Yahoo would change earlier or later or be off by one town several miles away -- several times. Yahoo's city naming convention was about 85% good. So they're both pretty great feeds in my view. But I'm a bit of a nut about accuracy - especially for this city iWidget of mine and all my widgets I'll eventually convert for that matter. The weather info is greater with WW - I'll never worry about that.

So I'll PM you with a few questions about the WU feed and API.

Thanks for the head's up about WU.

But WW, overall, was a real champ on the trip home. We went the scenic route home and it just kept updating as it was designed to do. Still lovin it!!

EDIT: I should add that the Yahoo JSON feed myLocation widgets uses updated 30% LESS than even WW did.. So Yahoo uses a different more accurate feed for their Apple Weather.app than the free feed we were using with myLocation. It's accuracy was about the same as WW - but it ignored a lot of smaller towns.

The free yahoo feed is their beta feed, so you get what you pay for there.

Thanks, King.. You mean the one we used with myLocation widgets is their free beta feed? And the one WW uses is the Apple feed Yahoo give them?

Well - that's generally true in life.. but Google's free feed is CRAZY accurate compared to Yahoo. You get a max of 2500 free hits per day (per IP) with Google.

Yes. That's why they would mess with the feed and we would scramble to fix crap.

Yes. This is the official feed that is provided to Apple. I'm sure there is some kind of deal here.

Free yes, but it is published as free use. It's not a test feed that you are tapping into.

Ah.. That explains a lot. I wonder why we didn't think of using Google's feed with myLocation? It was always the "free" or not issue.. as I recall.

Yes, I believe it was just the weather of choice. Plus grabbing the beta feed from a "back door" might have been more fun then to just grab a free feed. Not sure how long googles feed has been offered either. Might not have been an option way back when.

Yes. That makes sense. The "back door" is often more fun.

I was going to but NewD blocked me. It truly is a sad day when one looses a friend...I hope that never happens to me.

Just blocked you for a few days, bro. Couldn't take the constant negativity. Unsubscribing from ( & never going back to) the Debate thread (didn't read any messages past my "I'm out" post).. has reduced stress these last few days. Also going away to the mountains for a few days this last weekend and playing with and tweaking my iWidget has relaxed me.

MMI is where I come to relax. Any thread/person who adds stress for me - is just easier to 'take a break from'. That's what I'm gonna do from here on out. The Ignore button is there for a reason. And I encourage those for whom their blood pressure rises when reading me... for your own good.. block me too.. ..

You're off the ignore list, bro.. I have questions about Groovy's theme that I'm eager to explore. And you're really helpful at that stuff!

I understand why u blocked me. I wasn't upset by it and I'm glad your blood pressure is down.

Please feel free to ask away about Groovys theme. I love what he has done and he is so gracious with his time that any help I can provide I am available. Of course it may just be high 5's though. .

I'll take your word on that one. Have yet to experience the "back door" myself.
