I'm using an iPhone 3GS, with iOS 5.0. It's hard to get a perfect theme with great icons so I decided to just change the icons myself with a nice wallpaper instead. I downloaded many icon packs for iPhone and tried installing them on my own. I though it'd be easy. I know how to ssh and all that, but now I don't have a wifi but I do have a wired internet for my desktop. And I have a software called "iFun Box" and it's pretty good. It helps me access all files on the iPhone. I thought I could just goto the appropriate application's folder to change it's icon. For example, I downloaded a cool looking icon for message. When I goto the Messages app's folder, there are too many icons. I do not know which one to replace with the one I've downloaded. Is it really possible if I just replace the downloaded one with the name of the existing one? I searched many forums and threads on mmi too, but most of them were old and every tutorial only talked about how to do it via ssh. Can anybody tell me how I can do it with iFunBox?
I know this sounds lame, but I found out how to do it.
But I seem to have only one problem. I downloaded a few themes, and created a new .theme folder in the root system and it showed up on winterboard and i resprung. All icons, wallpapers are loaded except messages. It's still the same. Is there a way I can change that?
Done! Found the solution for that too.
Theming via iFunBox is awesome and easy! If anybody knows how to change the background of sms threads and also the phone dialer, please let me know.

i just found the background for SMS
create an image 480x480 - name it SMSBackground.png (exactly that name) and put it in the root folder of your theme
thats it!

That I know, I've created many sms background images, but I don;t know where to place the png file. I replaced it in the messages.app folder, but even then it used the default theme. Where do I have to place my png files?
And the resolution is 480X480? I've created it in 320X460. That was the resolution of the default sms background.

this is how i do it.
access this directory in ifunbox:
var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.IconsCache
in there i view it as a detailed list.
copy the first part of the file name that comes before _defaultRole.
example: com.burbn.instagram_defaultRole-Icon-15
create a folder on your desktop something like this:
Desktop/Bundle/com.burbn.instagram
in that folder put your new icon for that app.
make sure that the name of the icon matches the icon in your app.
for instance, if you're using instagram, go to ifunbox and go into User Applications/Instagram/Instagram
in there will be the icon used. the file names vary and it has to match exactly, it's case sensitive.
so for instagram it's icon is: [email protected], which is a pretty typical name.
rename your icon to the app icon's name
example: Bundle/com.burbn.instagram/[email protected]
place that folder in the "bundles" photo of your theme and respring.
as far as your issue on the messages icon, just make sure that the identifier in the themes bundle folder has the same name as the app and the icon image has the matching file name.
hope that helps.Last edited by IamNotPermanent; 02-11-2012 at 10:08 PM.
