iPhone 4 SMS tones
Does anyone know how to change the SMS tones to custom tones? I tried everything but can't get it to work. My phone is jailbroken. Can someone please help? Thanks

BiteSMS and ToneFXs are two apps that accomodate this. You can change the exiting files via SSH

I don't see the ui folder. Could it be somewhere else?

I used iPhone explorer but when I look for the ui sound folder, it's not under audio.

Ok, heres what you do, sftp into your phone go to-
System
Library
Audio
UIsounds
now scroll down to where you see sms-received1.caf thru sms-received6.caf these are your stock sms tones! And to answer your question you will rename YOUR sms tones to sms-received1.caf and so on, for example:
"Godfather.mp3", you will need to convert this with an audio converter such as "Switch Audio Converter",to "Godfather.aiff", then after that, you rename it "sms-received1.caf", then you replace the original one with this one by dragging it over to the original one and copying it, a window will pop-up saying "do you want to replace this file", just click yes!!! But when you look in your phone, by going to Settings - Sounds - New Text Message, you will still see your stock sms tone names ie: Tri-tone, Chime, etc., so just listen to them 1 by 1 to see which is which !! You can also do this to any file that has a .caf extension like new-mail.caf,sent-mail.caf and even the dialing numbers of the dialer. Sorry if this not quite "direct-to-the-point" but i'm really better at showing then explaining... Anyway, just post-up again if you have anymore questions. Good luck mate!

Default SMS tones not working anymore on iP4 running on 4.3.3
Here's what I did, followed the get an mp3 and or a ringtone then convert it to .aiff; after converting, change the extension to .caf; after changing the extension browsed my iDevice with ifunbox navigated to /System/Library/Audio/Uisounds/ copied a dosen tones (well hoping it would appear on settings -> sounds>) after of which i renamed sms-received1-6.caf to sms-received1.caf.bak (one by one to 6), then since I already had a couple of tones already in the DIR i renamed 6 tones to sms-received1.caf so on.
rebooted, literally a clean power cycle. after booting, quess what, sms tones aren't working anymore.
the work around I did, installed toneFXs instead since I use to have this application as well.
But I just wanted to know if maybe somebody knows the cause of the Default tones not to work.
